Η θητεία του Jay Shah ως γραμματέας του BCCI θα λήξει στις 31 Νοεμβρίου.
Before his tenure as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ends, Jay Shah will resolve the Champions Trophy 2025 issue. The cricket administrator is poised to become the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman on December 1, 2025. Before he leaves the BCCI, Jay Shah wishes to resolve the ongoing matter regarding the ICC Champions Trophy’s scheduling with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who were announced the hosts of the event in 2021.
PCB adamant about hosting ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The BCCI has categorically denied travelling to Pakistan for the 8-team event, forcing the ICC to convince the PCB to host the event in a hybrid model. But, unlike past times, this time around, the PCB isn’t willing to budge. What beckons to be their first ICC event in 28 years, they won’t let go of the Champions Trophy 2025 so easily.
PCB has written to the ICC regarding BCCI’s decision not to send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan. Reports have also suggested that they’ll boycott not just the Champions Trophy 2025 but all the coming ICC events for the next 7 years if they are not allowed to host the 8-team tournament at home. This has ruffled a few feathers.
Jay Shah to call PCB Chief
The broadcasters for the 8-team event aren’t pleased with the idea of no India vs Pakistan match. They’ve threatened the ICC with legal action if the high-octane clash doesn’t happen. In a state of panic, the ICC has reportedly organised a meeting with all the boards on November 26. But to ensure the matter is truly resolved, Jay Shah will have a telephonic call with his counterpart, PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi.
The constant delays regarding the schedule have seen the ICC push back the date for announcing the schedule for the Champions Trophy 2025. The PCB had further forced ICC’s hand recently, with Naqvi making comments to the media. Now, everything hinges on how the call between Jay Shah and Naqvi goes.
