And finally, the day has arrived. 7th November, 5 PM is the deadline for the 5 Women’s Premier League (WPL) Teams to submit their retention list. Much like IPL, in WPL, the 5 different franchise sides will release their Retention list showcasing which players have been retained and who have been released.
Since there won’t be a mega auction for WPL this time, teams can retain as many players as they want. However, reports indicate that next season, there can be a mega WPL auction. This will be a good moment for teams to select and retain their core setup of players. And with the retention list out, the teams can then focus on areas that need reinforcements.

WPL retention rules explained
As per the WPL retention rules, each franchise is allowed to have a squad of 18 members with six overseas players. The BCCI will conduct a mini Women’s Premier League auction, but the dates are not confirmed as yet. The WPL auction purse for the upcoming edition is Rs 15 crore. It has been increased from Rs 12 crore in season one to Rs 13.5 crore last season.
